Actress and model Jaime King is starting a new chapter in her life. According to People magazine, King is now engaged to investment banker Austin Sosa. This happy news comes after several years of legal battles with her ex-husband, filmmaker Kyle Newman, over divorce and child custody.
Jaime King and Austin Sosa
Recently, Jaime King was spotted leaving a salon in West Hollywood. She wasn’t alone—what caught everyone’s attention was the diamond ring on her left hand. Soon after, People confirmed that King is engaged to Austin Sosa, a private investment banker who graduated from Brigham Young University.
Sosa isn’t someone who shows up much on social media. In fact, he keeps a very low profile. King also hasn’t posted much about him either. But back in December, she shared a sweet photo of her two sons, James and Leo with a caption that read “Family forever,” and included Sosa in that group.
One source told People, “Jaime is very close with Austin’s family”. The source also shared that she had been living with Sosa’s parents after moving out of her apartment in Los Angeles earlier this year.
The Long Divorce Battle
King was married to Kyle Newman for over a decade. They tied the knot in 2007 and had two sons together: James Knight, now 11, and Leo Thames, 9. But in May 2020, King filed for divorce. What followed was a long and very public legal process.
Their divorce wasn’t finalized until September 2023, three years after it began. And even after the divorce was over, the fight over who would have custody of the kids continued.
In March 2025, a judge gave Kyle Newman sole physical custody of the boys. That means the children now live full-time with their father. Although both parents still share legal custody, the court gave Newman something called “tie-breaking authority.” This means if they disagree on something major about the kids—like school or health—he has the final say.
Jaime King is still allowed to see her children, but there are strict rules. Her visits must be supervised and are limited to three times a week. She can only see them during certain hours and only if one of the approved supervisors is present. Those include her mother, sister and brother-in-law, along with Kyle Newman’s brother, Kevin.
It all goes back to a court-ordered program King was supposed to complete.
What the Court Said
Court documents shared by People explained the decision. One major issue was that King didn’t finish a six-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. That program also included weekly testing, a parenting course, aftercare and therapy sessions—some with her kids, some alone. Since she didn’t complete it, the judge ruled that it wasn’t safe for her to have unsupervised time with her children.
During the divorce process, Newman had made several serious claims. He said that King had problems with substance use and hadn’t been around much as a parent. In one document from 2020, he said she had “largely been an absent parent” and that he had been the “primary caregiver.”
King’s team denied that. Her rep told the press, “Jaime’s utmost priority has been the well-being of her children and she will continue to pursue this privately for their sake.”
Money Problems and More
The custody case wasn’t just about parenting. There were financial disagreements too.
In April 2024, King went to court asking to change her spousal and child support deal. She said she couldn’t afford the payments anymore and wanted to end the spousal support agreement that had been in place since 2022.
Newman didn’t agree. He said that King hadn’t been following the support orders for over a year. Things became even more tense when reports surfaced about King having issues with her landlord.
In March 2025, King responded in a statement to Us Weekly, saying, “The situation with my landlord was resolved privately. It’s disappointing—but not surprising—to see someone try to exploit this moment for attention. I am currently focused on what matters most: my children.”
Moving On with Austin Sosa
Through all of this, Jaime King has kept going. Her engagement to Austin Sosa is a sign that she may be ready to leave the past behind and move toward a more stable future.
There’s no official wedding date yet, and King hasn’t spoken much publicly about the engagement. Still, those close to her say she’s in a better place emotionally. Being close with Sosa’s family seems to be helping her heal.
As of now, King is still working on her relationship with her children while also building a new life with Sosa. Even though the custody decision limits her time with her sons, she continues to show love and support in the ways she’s allowed.
This engagement might not fix everything but it could be a small step forward after years of stress and battles.
